According to the National Education Association, teachers annual salary has been declining gradually that it is coming to the point where teachers end up on the streets with signs indicating how helpless they have become. About 25 years ago it was never like this, teachers used to be paid fairly well where they were able to stand on their two feet and get the job done but come present-day it seems as though things have flipped. Now we have teachers having to work two jobs to get their bills paid. The signs that are in each cartoon exemplify how teachers are financially insecure that they no longer can afford food. They are willing to use their skills and strategies that they have acquired after years of schooling in exchange for food. These cartoon images have predicated what you may see on the streets in the next decade or maybe even sooner. Although, right now it may seem like an exaggeration, within no time it will become part of reality if something is not done soon.

So far, a teacher has taken the streets with a sign that reads “Teacher Needs School Supplies, Anything Helps!” Many people have become really ignorant of the crisis that teachers are currently going through in school. Parents/Guardians have this notion that when they drop their children off that everything is already provided for them and anything else it is the teacher’s responsibility to provide for his/her students. But having to provide supplies and other educational necessities to enhance student learning soon becomes very expensive when it becomes an annual thing. Teachers already are underpaid and having them take out the money that they just earned to put back into the classroom prevents teachers from living a good life. These expenses soon accumulate which eventually creates holes in the pockets of teachers. America, being one of the top countries in the world, should be well aware of the importance of education. But, apparently education is not a top priority so lawmakers are in denial of the needs of schools. It is astounding how the people who work for the Department of Education are able to sleep at night after they make cutbacks on schools across the nation. Knowingly, that it impacts students as well their teachers immensely. It really says a lot about where America stands when it comes to the education of students.
